While Pokemon will have Generally the same stats as they grow to the same level, there are ways to make their power grow at different rates. If you recall the Carbos and Protien items etc (the ones that nobody ever used) they actually serve a purpose now. Each of these items, meaning Calcium, Carbos, HP Up, Iron, Protein, and Zinc, serve a much better purpose. They add a + to a Pokemon's stat for three levels, making it VERY wonderful. Why? Those Three Leves add up. It makes anything that was a - an ~, anything that was a ~ a +, and anything that was a + a ++. Example.

If a pokemon has a ++ on a stat and is a first stage evolution of three, it gets to add 5 per level versus the usual 3.
There's also one other lovely way to boost your strengths. It's called a Pokesnack. Their candies made from Berries. You crush up the berries into powder then melt it down and harden them in a game process on the site. These candies let you boost the power of a specific move. Based on how well you did you can raise that move's damage by anywhere between 2 and 7. It's very helpful. What's the catch? Well, a pokemon may only be fed so many per move. As for the Stat up items, they're veeeery expensive and a pokemon can only be fed so many, anyway.
